What Social Media Data Tells You About Your Target eCommerce Client

By Darren Pierce on Jun 10, 2013 6:00:00 AM

Most eCommerce companies are using social media today.

At least it seems that way.

The reason eCommerce companies and eTailers are using social media is because 27% of total U.S. Internet time is spent on social networking sites.

With that much of the population using social media sites, it’s become a new medium for getting consumers to discover a brand.

As a vendor, there is value in the social media data companies provides publically. It can help you not only target the right eTailers but figure out exactly what challenges they have.

Target Customer Demographic

There is a big gap in the demographics of consumers using social media. You can learn a lot about your target clients by assessing their social media efforts.

Large followings and interactions on social media sites like Facebook, Twitter, and Pinterest often indicate a business with female customers.

Social media users also skew young with the highest group under the age of 29.

The more you know about your target client’s target customer the more you can understand the business. With this understanding, you can learn what challenges these eTailers face and you can position your solution as something that can solve specific problems.

Available Marketing Budget

Social media use by eTailers is also a good gauge for determining how likely a company is to spend on a vendor.

If you have a great solution that fills a great need for an eTailer you’ll have an easy time making a sale, but if the sale is typically more difficult you can increase your odds by targeting eTailers that are more apt to spend marketing dollars with vendors.

If it’s obvious a company is working with a marketing firm for social media strategy, video strategy, and blogging strategy you can bet they are likely to spend with other vendors.

eTailer Data

The more data you can gather about your eTailer prospects the better off you’ll be when it comes to making a connection and eventual sale.

Social media surface data is readily available to the public. Within a few minutes, you can make basic assumptions about eTailers and increase the odds of getting more clients.

With even more data – like that which we provide our clients at etailinsights – you can gain even more information that will ensure you’re targeting the right eTailers so you can grow your business.
