Cold-Calling is NOT Dead, by Ally Paul

Power User Spotlight: Ally Paul, Monetate

Ally_Paul_Image.jpgAlly's Hack:  Reach out to prospects in multiple channels.

In this day and age, social selling is a huge tactic that I think all salespeople should use. In addition, do all the research you can beforehand to make sure you're reaching out to the correct contact at a company. If you're blasting multiple people at a company, not only is that time consuming, but you will most likely get put on a blacklist, and they won't even see emails from your company in the future.

My last piece of advice would be to personalize your messaging. Prospects don't want to hear robotic pitches or see template-like emails all day, especially when they're in an industry that gets these messages from thousands of vendors every day. Do something to stand out.

Also - the phone/cold-calling is NOT dead...

etailinsights Power User Interview

Ally, what is your favorite restaurant in Philadelphia and why?

My favorite restaurant in Philly is Tacconelli's Pizza. Thin crusts = ability to eat an unlimited amount of yummy pizza.

What drove you to begin a sales career in eCommerce?

When I started my sales career, I was in an industry that was a complete bore. I took the job because it had a world-renowned sales training program, good pay, and was the perfect way to get my foot in the door with sales. However, after a few months, I'd find myself not being interested in learning more about the industry, which started to hurt my motivation on a daily basis. When looking for my next job, I knew if I was staying in sales it HAD to be in an industry that I was passionate about. I took my love for technology and shopping and found myself researching into the eCommerce sales world, which is where I found Monetate.

How does Monetate help etailers?

Monetate is an ecommerce platform that absorbs all of the data we know about a person and makes marketing decisions in real time with machine-learningto give them the best personalized site experience. This helps etailers reduce bounce rate, increase conversion, boost ROI, and reach many other marketing goals.

How are you using etailinsights to source eCommerce Leads or build a Directory of Online Retailers?

My main use case for etailinsights is the Technology Spy. As an ecommerce platform in a crowded space, it is crucial to see if a prospect is using a competitor that is doing something similar to Monetate and when they drop them. It's good to see if they're using a competitor in the space to show us that they already have their head in the right place for a personalization vendor.

The other main reason I use etailinsights is for contact information in eCommerce and marketing departments. I am cold-calling prospects on a daily basis, so etailinsights is very useful to help find email addresses and direct phone numbers.

What is your favorite Top 40 eCommerce Conference  and why?

Shop.org is my favorite eCommerce Conference because our CEO sits on the Board of Directors. This conference is a great place for people in the industry to get together and share leads and best practices.
