Should You Be Using Google+ To Connect With Prospects?

By Darren Pierce on Jan 30, 2014 6:00:00 AM

Google+ is becoming increasingly popular, and some thought leaders believe it could eventually overtake Facebook as being the most popular social network.

So . . . should you be using it to connect with prospects?

The answer is yes, and here’s why.

It Allows You To Listen

If anything, Google+ is a great tool for research.

Tons of information are available that you can use to better get to know your prospects before reaching out. Seeing which circles they’re in, what content they’re commenting on, and whom they’re connected with is all valuable insight.

You can also monitor what’s being said about you and your brand by setting up alerts. This helps you identify interested prospects and/or address negative comments.

Communities Are More Welcoming

While Facebook is about connecting with friends, people we actually know in real life, Google+ is about meeting people with similar interests.

Users go to Google+ when they want to discuss topics that interest them. Unlike Facebook users, Google+ users aren’t as concerned about having met you in real life. They’re just looking to talk about something they’re passionate about.

This makes it easier to get a foot in the door with prospects because communities welcome your expert opinion, even if they haven’t personally met you offline.

Hangouts Are A Huge Advantage

Google+ Hangouts allow you to connect with prospects on a more personal level.

Hosting a live webinar or a real-time Q&A session about a product is more memorable and more impactful than discussing the same topic via email or phone. Having this on-the-spot feedback gives customers a better sense of engagement.

Hangouts put a face to your brand, make your prospects feel valued, and help to build stronger, longer-lasting relationships.

On the surface, Google+ may seem like any other social network. Dig a little deeper and you will see that it can be a valuable tool to connect with prospects.

Have you been using Google+ to connect with prospects?
