Posting useful information to a blog consistently is a great way to build authority and generate some leads, but if you really want to take your content marketing to the next level and turn it into a lead generating machine, you have to understand what kind of content your leads are looking for.
Here are three content types that statistically generate the most engagement and web traffic.
1) Infographics
Infographics are a powerful way to get someone’s attention and to drive home a particular point in only a handful of words. Not to mention, they’re super sharable and perfect for posting on social media. Just look at some of these great examples.
While an infographic can be designed around any idea, they work particularly well if you want to display data, research, or other statistics.
If you have a little room in the budget, you can use a service like Visual.ly to create an infographic for you, or you can invest a little time and DIY with Canva.
2) Extensive Guides
Guides are basically an epic piece of content that goes way above and beyond what you’d normally publish in a blog post, and they're a great way to build authority and a ton of backlinks. Take a topic you’d usually flesh out in 500 words and do a deep dive, complete with example screenshots and a whole bunch of resources. Make it better than anything else out there on the Internet around the topic.
Neil Patel is pretty much the king of creating these kinds of extensive guides, and he stands by them wholeheartedly, which is more than enough reason for me to recommend them too.
3) Lists
If you read this blog regularly, you’ll notice that we use lots of lists (like our most recent post, 3 Reasons Why Your Online Retailer Leads Keep Saying No) to get a point across. Take a look around the rest of the Internet and you’ll see we’re pretty much right on-trend.
List posts are still among the most engaged with and most popular types of content out there. Scientifically, readers are attracted to lists, and they’re easy to organize. Introduce your topic in a few catchy sentences, provide your list of points, and then summarize a conclusion.
If you’re in need of an idea, here’s an awesome example.
Focus on building content you know your leads are looking for, and you’ll begin to see better engagement and more referral traffic.
