5 Trends eCommerce Online Retail Managers Care About in 2013

By Darren Pierce on May 17, 2013 6:00:00 AM

When you’re reaching out to eCommerce retail managers it’s all about the subject matter.

These people are busy. They don’t have time to talk unless the topic is relevant.

If you’re looking for the topics eTailers care most about today then you’ve come to the right place. These five trends are top of mind for eCommerce managers this year.

1. Consumer Mobile Use (Specifically Smartphones)

Mobile Internet use is expected to grow 66% per year (!) each of the next five years.

Mobile, and specifically smartphones, is a top concern for eCommerce retail managers. They know that consumers are using smartphones to access the Web and they want to know how this paradigm shift will impact their business.

2. Video Content

Over 4 billion hours of video are watched on YouTube…each month!

Again, eCommerce managers care about a video because they know consumers get a rich experience from watching videos whether for entertainment, education, or enlightenment.

eTailers know they should be doing something with video. They just aren’t yet sure how to do it and what strategy will improve their business.

3. Design Resources

With an understanding of the increase in Internet use by consumers the next logical concern for eCommerce managers is how to make the sale.

Websites, apps, emails, videos, and every other piece of online content need to convince consumers to make a purchase. The process begins with good design, but the issue is finding quality designers.

There seems to be a shortage of designers that understand the sales process. When eCommerce companies find a good one they don’t let them go.

4. Development Resources

Like designers, there is a shortage of quality development resources.

Developers implement websites, apps, and a million other things that keep eCommerce companies operational. In today’s world of technology, the most important person on every team might be the one in charge of development.

5. Profit (It Never Goes Out Of Style)

Profit is not a trend, but it’s the biggest concern for every eCommerce manager.

Whether you’re talking about social media, advertising, design, or development it always comes back to profit and how the company can grow by taking advantage of new trends.

If your target client is an eCommerce manager, show them how your solution can add profit to their bottom line and you’ll have a great chance to close the deal.

After all, who would turn down profit?

What other trends do you think eCommerce managers care about this year?
